The purpose of a compactor is to reduce the physical volume of waste, which saves space and money. Typically waste removal is charged by volume, not weight. Compacting waste into a smaller, denser volume offers financial advantages regarding waste management and removal fees.

All compactors have based on a similar design. Waste is loaded into the compactor and then compacted by a hydraulic piston.

Compactor Terms

• Ram: The structure that is attached to the cylinder that pushes the material.
• Power Pack: Contains electric motor, hydraulic pump, and panel box and controls.
• Charge Box: Area into which material is loaded.
• Clear Top Opening: Measurement located at the top of the charge box opening.
• Container: Structure that holding the compacted garbage.
